Five to one- the doors

Five to one is rumored to be the approximate ratio of whites to blacks, old to young, or non-pot smokers to pot smokers in the US in 1967, depending on whom you ask. A further urban legend has it as the ratio of Viet Cong to American troops in Vietnam. However, when asked, Jim Morrison said the lyrics were not political

FURNITURE & FASHION- JAMES KING

James King is a UK fashion and furniture photographer. I decided to look at his work because in most normal fashion shoots, the photographer is often trying to make the model the main focus point/ subject matter, but in his collection 'Inside', he decided to make the furniture, often classy and in rich tones, the main focal point. I like this particular image because of the way the material is draped onto the arm chair, the same way in which clothes are elegantly often placed on models
.

SPRING

For spring I decided I wanted to submit one of my own photographs to the blog, mostly because it is also one of my favourite photographs I have taken. This photograph was taken in 2008 in a park in Manchester on my first digital camera (not very hi-res) BUT I believe it is still a strong image because of the way in which the man walking his dog becomes a centre point because both of them are darker tones, in comparison to the oranges and reds of the leaves in spring and so it becomes very atmospheric.

The Tower Of Wine

When looking for more creative forms of advertisement photography for Cooper's project, I found these images by Liverpool commercial photographer, Paul Whitte. On his own blog he mentioned how he was interested in making structures from every day objects- ofcoarse these being wine glasses. I am interested by this image because the way in which it is balanced is very risky and yet works perfectly for the shot/ advert.

MILK: SPLASH

I decided for this reccomendation I would not look directly at generic photographs of milk, but find more interesting ways in which it has been used for effect. I was interested in these photographs by commerical photographer, Jeff Denzer, because of the way in which he not only tried to achieve the traditional image of milk splashing, but how he was more creative in the way in which he added food colouring to the milk to create more quirky and fun images.

Furniture

This photograph was taken by Adrian Heapy, which is a photography company based in the Midlands. I like this image because of the boldness of the colour of the sofa, also how there are only three colours within the frame, purple, brown and black.

Spring

The promotional image for global fashion brand EDUN. USP's of EDUN is positive trading relationship with Africa, and is supporting their cotton farmers through the recovery of 25 years of civil war in UGANDA specifically. This image reflects spring both as their 2012 spring/summer campaign, but the contemporary use of butterlies is an original use of symbolism. Butterflies represent beauty and new life, something the label itself is trying to encourage in UGANDA.

Spring photography

for spring photography i found this blog it doesn't say who the photographer is. i like the images that are posted on the wall as i think it illustrates spring very well and i think it shows you in different stages what happens and how the tree's blossom and everything starts to look pretty and is not all droopy and dull looking...

This is the link to the blogger as i cant find who the photographer is.... HAVE A LOOK!

spirit of spring
I chose this image because its simple and because the colours and small amount of lighting help show spring very well.

Ellen Kooi

she is a dutch photographer who caught my eye with her use of spring like colours and settings, she uses out of the ordinary placing for her models to create a mystery feel to her images.

Spring.

The advertisements, shot by photographer Perou, aim to promote the benefits of drinking low fat milk.

Medicine Hat - Canada

Make Mine Milk

Make Mine Milk - an EU campaign featuring celebrities including Rupert Grint, Jenson Button and Kelly Rowland encouraging people to drink more milk as opposed to fizzy or alcoholic beverages. They use the milk mustache for comedy value, while also using the celebrities as role models to 'young people.'

Harold Edgerton

LOL

This photograph of Whoopi Golberg was taken by Annie Leibovitz.

The picture was inspired by one of Goldberg's stage routines, in which she plays a little black girl who uses Clorox to wash her skin in an attempt to be white.

The shoot required gallons of milk that were warmed in pots on the stove and poured into a bathtub. Goldberg then slipped in the bath and stuck out her tongue.

Album Art: Jimmy Eat World- Bleed American

Jimmy Eat World are an american rock band who throughout their discography have paid homage to alot of famous photographers through their artwork. I was drawn to the artwork for 'Blled American' where they had used one of William Eggleston photographs , a trophy cabinet representing America's obsession with 'competiton' which in many cases, politically led to conflict.

GOOGLE STREET VIEW: SLOVAKIA

I decided rather than choosing a city I wanted to look at an interesting landscape from the google street view to contemplate as to whether or not hte landscape has been photographed in the same way a photographer would show it. I decided to look at the Tatra Mountains that connected Slovakia to the rest of Europe.

Gotye- somebody that i used to know

No Line On The Horizon - U2

The image that features on the cover of this album was taken by Hiroshi Sugimoto. This image is an image of Lake Constance which was titled the Boden Sea. This image is on eout of a collection of 200. It was used because it inspired a section of lyrics in a particular song that featured on the album. Sugimoto had a deal that the band were allowed to use the image as long as no text was placed over the image.

Abbey Road

Photographed by Iain McMillan, based on an original sketch by Paul McCartney. This image has become the most iconic album cover ever seen in Britain. The Beatles, who by this point were an international phenomenon, used this albukm cover to come back to their Liverpudlian roots and give off an air of being down to earth. The Zebra crossing has become a huge tourist attraction.

P.S Katie the man in the white suit is John Lennon, he is not a member of U2. <3
This photograph was taken by Jeanloup Sieff and I think that it is a good image as the subject is highlighted very well. I like the fact that it is in black and white and there is a lot of shadows as this makes the body stand out and you only focus on the body which is why it was lit like this :)
I chose Patrick Demarchelier as my photographer because the majority of his nude images seem really natural and i think the fact that he does them in black and white gives it that extra effect, because as there are no bright colours it doesnt draw any unneeded attention to a certain part of the image.

Simon Bolz

i chose to look at this photographer because i like how he has used to mask over the women's face to disguise them but also because we all tend to judge people by their faces before anything else. The top image i liked because the women has freckles and i think this comes across as sexy and very unique. You don't really see a lot of models that have freckles all over their body. I think this photographer likes to paint women in a different view to what we all think we see. This project was called 'Mysterious Mask' and was done in july 2006. He has a load more of his work on his website..... go on there and see his projects!!!!

Imogen Cunningham

Imogen Cunningham is a femail photographer who has shot nude images. These images were shot in black and white, this makes the image have a natural feel. I like this because it shows the simplicity of the human body.

Lee Earle

Lee earle is a glamour photographer who shoot a lot of nude photography, his work is know as tasteful and sensual nudes but in my opinion it is really not hugely tasteful. his shots are very simple shots of the female form usually topless but sometimes completely nude.
he was responsible for discovering famous model lucy pinder after spotting her sun bathing on the beach and after photographing her that day he managed to sign her up to a contract for the daily star where he photographed her for a few years until she moved on to 'mens magazines' such as zoo of fhm

Simon Bolz

“I shoot nude photo series for magazines and capture only what’s necessary not to overstimulate you.” – says nude photographer Simon Bolz from Frankfurt, Germany.

DAVID BAILEY'S NUDES 1970S

I decided to look at Nudes done by David Bailey because when studying his work for my homage project I found that it was interesting how his nude portraits seemed so bare and natural in comparison to the heavy fur and almost fakeness of the models he used in his fashion work. Towards the end of the 70s Bailey had finished a series of nudes that he described the people as 'human beings' rather than models. To this day he still continues to work on nudes, most recently with models such as Kate Moss combining beauty with nude photography to show these iconic people in a new and natural light.

Alasdair McLellan

Alasdair McLellan shot photographs of Agyness Deyn, supposedly the ONLY nude shoot she has ever done. The photographs ooze confidence whilst in a vulnerable position. Her individuality brings an alternative beauty in a conventional way.
