Irving Penn

One of the most credible fashion photographers of the 20th Century; Irving Penn's photography appears striking in it's contrast and glamorous in it's composition. This image in particular; the model's facial expression is striking and fierce. His perception of women in his imagery is one of power; emphasized by the harsh tonal contrast.

Jason Christopher

Jason Christopher is an American fashion photographer who is based in Los Angeles. Many of his images have been dscribed as classic, romantic and clean. In most of the images he tries to position his modules so the look smooth and clean; he then contrasts the lighting effects with the modle by making the lighting sharp and edgy. A mix of different modles and athletes are used in his images. I like these image beacause of the feel that you can get from them.

Rankin

n April 2009 Rankin created ‘’Annroy’’, a contemporary structure designed by Trevor Horne Architects that is both a striking addition to London’s skyline and home to Rankin’s own state-of-the-art photographic studio, gallery and chic living space, where he lives with his wife and model Tuuli Shipster. Each month ‘’Annroy’’ holds a different exhibition, which features some of Rankin’s current work.

Mario Testino

I found some of Mario Testino's fashion work whilst looking through some previous Vogue issues and this particular spread that he did for UK Vogue in March 2009 really interested me because of how vibrant the photographs were.
Especially this photo because of the way the sand and the highlights of her skin match in colour and the way her sunglasses reflect the horizon. and all together i just think the photograph is amazingly set out.

These two photos are from another spread he did in UK Vogue called 'Sasah' i like the tones in these because they are a lot more subtle but the photographs seem kind of childish because of how the model seems to be just playing around, and also because the clothes that the model is wearing in the first photo sort of match that of a child playing dress up.

Toby Clark fashion photography

I found toby clark on flckr so hes not a huge photographer but i really like some of his fashion work as they're not on a set and have more of an outdoors and urban structure to them.
I like the vibrant colours in this image, i think that the model could of been in a better pose, but i love the lighting that brings a nice shadow into the image and the bright clothes that stand out and hit you in the face
.
This is another one of his fashion images thats done out of a studio and with flash on location. Its a bit more subtle with the colours and harsh lighting on this compared to the previous image but i still find it very striking as the red top really stand out on the blue sea and sky backdrop, and the lighting used helps smooth-en the models body and skin tone out.

FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHER- MARGARET BOURKE WHITE

Margaret Bourke is most well known for being the first foreign photographer permitted to take pictures of the Soviet Industry and also the first female war correspondant. Essentially she is a photojournalist and documentary photographer, having documented some of the biggrst events of the 20th Century for LIFE Magazine but also is an architectural and commerical photographer. The main reason as to why I chose Margaret Bourke is because she is one of my biggest influences because of the way in which she broke boundaries for female photographers at the time and the sense of truth within her work. There is also a large comparison that can be made between her work and photojournalist godfather, Henri Cartier-Bresson's work making her a strong and inconic female figure within photojournalism and documentary photography.

David Bailey

David Bailey has long been one of the most famous commercial photographers in the world. He has worked for magazines and newspapers from Vogue to the Daily Telegraph, photographing most of the key cultural figures from the worlds of pop music, literature and theatre with a simple and dramatic style. He has remarked that his approach was inspired by the the style and free expression of working girls in dance halls. Bailey continues to have a successful and high profile career as a photographer and film maker.

Rizzle Kicks :)

I think that their music is really unique and i think that its very eay listening music. I also think that their music video for 'When i was a youngster' i think that it has a really good idea behind it, as it shows them from what they aspired to when they were kids to where they actually are now. :)

Modern Way - Kaiser Chiefs.

The song 'Modern Way' features on the album 'Employment'; this was the first abum that the Kaiser Chiefs released in 2005. The lyrics to the song can sem to have more than one meaning and can seem philosophical. This is one of my favourite songs, because of the lyrics create a mood which is accompanied with the mood and rhythm of the music.

Music: Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy - Queen

Written by Freddie Mercury, released in 1976 from the album 'A Day at the Races'. This track holds true to the typical lyrical and vocal style of the rest of the album. Upbeat, with a slightly melancholic undertone.
This song means a lot to me, as does the rest of Queen's greatest as I find it easy to listen to regardless of the mood I'm in. The bouncy beat can cheer me up whilst lyrically the narrative is relateable.
I recommend you give it a listen as well as Killer Queen, You're My Best Friend, Seven Seas of Rhye, Don't Stop Me Now and Bohemian Rhapsody. Links below.

PS, I didn't watch the videos all the way through... Have no idea what may crop up towards the middle/end... They're not great so just ignore the visuals :o)

Roy Mehta

These photographs are from a project called 'Coastline' which Roy Mehta takes at the beach. He photographs portraits of people and also the actual beach itself. I like his work because the background of the portraits look so dull and arent as rich and vibrant as the photographs of the landscape, yet they are the same place. I alsoo like the fact that the clothing the people within the portraits have bright coloured clothes, because that makes the landscape behind them seem alot more dull.

Annie Leibovitz BY VICKY AND EMMA :)

Annie Leibovitz BY VICKY AND EMMA :)

Annie Leibovitz is a female American photographer who specialises in portrait photography. Leibovitz when on tour with the Rolling stones and was able to capture shots that other people wouldnt be able to achieve. One of the most famous images that Leibovits has produced is of John Lennon. This was the last image that was taken of John Lennon.

Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz went on tour with the rolling stones, she was able to capture them naturally as sh spent a lot of time around them, they became comfortable around her, almost as if they forgotten the camera was there. Her favourite shot was on Mick Jagger in the elevator.
From about the 70s to the 90s Sally Mann became well known for her large black and White prints. The most recognisable of theses were pictures of her young children. It became a document series on how then reacted to the camera.

Sophie Calle

Sophie Calle is a French artist but works with photography and performances, she places herself in situations almost as if her and the people surrounding her are fictional. She also involves elements of her own life into her work creating a personal narrative where she is both the author and character.
One of her projects i like a lot is called 'The Hotel' because she became a chambermaid at a hotel in Venice for about a year documenting people who stayed at the hotel based on their own personal belongings.

cindy sherman is a female photographer and movie director from america, she has done a wide variety of work but my two favourtite series are her self/portraits which she shot in black and white in new york city and her most recent fairy tale based work in which she shot colour pictures of well known fairy tales and stories :) she used to be a painter at college but soon found herself limited by the medium so she shortly decided to take up photography due to the expansive capabilities of a camera and how instead of spending her college years copying other stlyes and pictures with her paints she would rather pick up a camera and place all her focus onto an idea of her own and really perfect the art and create her own style. most of shermans work is done in a studio and she likes to work by herself for more concentration and acts as her own stylist, make up artist, art director and assistant. she insists that a photograph is made from the model, and tat a story can never be told from a background, or lighting but only from the deep emotion in a persons face.

Sarah bird

i was searching on google for a fashion female photographer and come across someone named sarah bird. i cannot get any of her pictures onto the blogger but i really like her work still want to use her. she does all sorts of photography but specialises in on -location photography and fashion studio. When you look at her work she is very edgy and you can tell she puts a lot of thought into what she does. her work is very emaculate. She has also just recentley been nominated for the susse fashion photographer of the year 2011 award. She runs a photography studio based in brighton. she has been proffesional now for just over 10 years. LOOK AT HER WORK!!

Fay Godwin

Fay Godwin was born in berlin and studied at various different places and settled down in london, she became interested in photography through photographing her own children and in 1975 published her own book 'The oldest road'. I think she has some really good landscape work and is defiantly worth looking up.

Alice Luker

Alice studied photography at FCoT and went on to do the degree course. She has gone on to produce beautiful fashion portraits and gaining commissions from London Fashion week to a hotel chain in Sri Lanka. Her fashion imagery has an edgy glamour which takes the stereotypical idea of beauty and gives it a new face.

Tony Ray-Jones

Tony Ray-Jones has taken many images of the British coast. Many of these were taken while he was travelling around Britain, he visited small costal towns and beaches. He shot photographs of unguarded people who weren't expecting anything. These images include a range of societies that were in Britiain at the time; this make the images more individual and I find this interesting. Many of the images contain a form of humour which adds a narrative to the images. Most of the imageswhich were taken of the coast were taken between 1966 - 1969.

The Face Magazine

The Face was a magazine which specified in music, fashion and popular culture in Britian. During the time that the magazine was being released many different photographers were creating images for the magazine a photographer who shot for the magazine was David LaChapelle. I liked this magazine because of the variety of subjects that they cover and I like the layout of the magazine.

Roy Mehta

I looked through a lot of Chris Killips work and found that most of the photos of the sea and its surroundings seemed sad and depressing because of the tones in the photographs and the expressions in the faces. i like his work though hes able to show emotion and the life people lived just through the photos he took.

Magazine

Marie Claire is a magazine which photgraphs everything from the Paris Fashion Week, to what the celebrities wore whilst out and about during that week. They have alot of beauty and fashion tips and also covers weddings and lifestlye section.Add Image

This is the ID magazine, its based around high fashion music and youth culture. The magazine keeps us as readers up to date with all of the latest styles and the photography helps show how good the high fashion clothing is. i liked this front cover of a magazine is because its a rock chick look and the image looks simple in how its put together but yet the image is actually really effective.

Vogue Magazine

Vogue's wide-reaching influence stems from various sources, including the personal achievements of its most famous editor, its various charitable and community projects, its ability to reflect political discourse through fashion and editorial articles, and its move to emerging economies. its know as one of the most influential fashion magazines around the world.

Roy Mehta Coast

I recently looked through Roy Mehtas project titled coast. I found the way he had found a new perspective of coastline photography very intriguing. In comparrison to martin parrs work the tones he has chosen to use are very soft and peaceful to accompany the feeling by the sea.
